Recientemente la UUK (Universidades del Reino Unido) tomó una deriva aún más neoliberal al anunciar su nuevo plan de pensiones para el personal universitario: pensiones se reducirán entre un 20% y 40%, traduciéndose en una pérdida de alrededor £10,000 cada año. Su retribución no consistirá en su cotización sino en el estado de la bolsa de valores, aparte de eliminar el derecho a una pensión asegurada del que ahora disfrutan. Esta es una medida más del proceso de mercantilización y elitización de la universidad que está sufriendo el Reino Unido, donde las tasas universitarias siguen subiendo mientras se recorta la financiación estatal hasta el punto que muchas universidades se verán obligadas bien a cerrar bien a cobrar tasas astronómicas completamente inaccesibles para las familias trabajadoras. Las universidades que no tienen su propio acuerdo contractual de pensiones y están sujetas a UUK llevan en huelga desde mediados de Febrero, es decir, 70 universidades organizando acciones, ocupaciones y protestas no solo para parar la reforma sino también para democratizar las universidades. Personal universitario y estudiantado, unidos, se están enfrentando a una institución que ha empezado a mostrar signos de flaqueza, por lo que en los últimos días se ha intensificado el acoso mediático y represión a huelguistas y estudiantes.
Es el momento de solidarizarnos con nuestras compañeras inglesas, mostrando que combatimos el enemigo común que es capitalismo, y que caminamos juntas hacia una universidad libre, universal y accesible.

SOLIDARITY WITH BRITISH STRIKERS AND STUDENTS
Recently the UUK took an even firmer neoliberal path, announcing their new pension plan for university staff: pensions will be axed between a 20% and 40%, meaning a loss of around £10,000 each year. Their retribution will not consist in their contribution but in the state of the stock market, apart from eliminating the right to a guaranteed pension which they now enjoy. This is one more measure in the process of marketisation and elitisation of universities that the UK is suffering, where tuition fees continue to go up while state financiation is reduced to the point many universities will be forced to either close down or raise their fees to astronomical levels, completely inaccesible to the working class.
All universities that to do not have their own contractual agreement on pensions and are subject to UUK have been striking since mid-February, that is 70 institutions, organising actions, occupations and protests not only to stop the reform but to democratise universities too. University staff and students are united and facing an institution which has started to show signs of weakness, which is why in these past days media harrassment and repression of strikers has intensified.
This is the moment to solidarise with our British siblings, showing we are fighting the common enemy which is capitalism, and that we are working for a free, universal and accesible high education.
